The aim of psychotherapy and counselling is to help you to learn and understand more about
yourself, and to develop more satisfying and healthier ways of living and relating.
Psychotherapy and counselling can be helpful for a wide range of problems, such as:
- Depression
- Low self-esteem and lack of confidence
- Anxiety, panic attacks and phobias
- Relationship difficulties
- Anger management and assertiveness training
- Stress
- Problems with food (anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating, obesity)
- Life transitions
- Loss and bereavement
- Post-natal depression
- Coping with physical illnesses or disabilities
- Alcohol and drug problems
- Giving up smoking
- Trauma
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Problems with sleep
- Work stress and redundancy
Alternatively, you may not be sure what your problems are, but find yourself feeling
distressed, stuck, dissatisfied, or unfulfilled but for no apparent reason.
Or you may feel confused or have a difficult decision to make.
My role is to help you to understand and clarify your problems and how they
developed, to help you to express and understand your feelings, and to gain a better
understanding of yourself. If you wish, I can also help you to make decisions, and
make changes to the way you think and behave. I will not try
to ‘fix’ you or give solutions to you, but I will work together with you to help
you find a way through your difficulties. Through gaining new insight a wider
range of choices then become available to you for responding to the inevitable
difficulties of life. In this way I hope to empower you and increase your
feelings of control over your life.
